Construction Project Management

The Center for Continuing Studies Construction Project Management Certificate program enables construction industry managers to complete projects on time and on budget by putting principles and theories learned into immediate action on the job. Earn the Certificate or take just the courses that interest you. To earn the certificate, you must take eight core courses and complete two additional electives.

Construction Blueprint Reading

Introduce yourself to blueprints and specifications used on construction projects while learning the skills necessary to reference through those documents. Topics include symbols, abbreviations and scaling of work plans. 2.0 CEU. Cost $275

Construction Specifications and Contracts

It is important to develop and implement proper and clearly explained contracts, scopes of work and contract specifications. It is equally important for those in the construction process to understand and properly interpret and abide by these documents. Contract types; "Ready Made" contracts such as AIA; contract implementation; contract specifications; and their preparation and interpretation will be covered. Classes consist of a combination of lecture and open discussion. Bring in your challenges and problems for discussion. 1.5 CEU. Cost $180

Construction Cost Estimating I
Prerequisite: Construction Blueprint Reading, Materials, Methods & Systems of Construction and computer literacy.
This course is designed for beginning estimators. Emphasis is placed upon developing a solid estimating foundation. Completion of the course provide estimators with the knowledge to complete accurate material and labor costs. Construction Cost Estimating I provides a strong knowledge of construction math and estimating procedures. A wide range of practice problems are included. Textbook is required and available in the college bookstore.
3.0 CEU. Cost $318 ($398 for students who have NOT taken Construction Blueprint Reading.)

Sketch Up Your Design

Required: Familiarity with Microsoft Office

Learn to use Google SketchUp Professional, version 7.0, to create a computer generated 3D model for residential, landscape and interior designs.  A digital PowerPoint portfolio will be built throughout the course and, at completion, will showcase design as well as 3D modeling and technology skills. Workbook is required and available in the college bookstore. 1.8 CEU. Cost: $375
