Uniform Construction Code

Mercer County Community College, part of the Mid-Jersey regional community colleges, is pleased to offer Uniform Construction Code (UCC) classes. These classes are for general contractors who are seeking to advance their careers and become New Jersey State Inspectors for local municipalities. The New Jersey State Department of Community Affairs (DCA) offers a tuition reimbursement for qualified applicants. The Information below lists the courses Mercer County Community College will offer this term. For specific information on courses offered by the other Mid-Jersey regional community colleges for Fall 2017 through Spring 2018 can be found below:

All coursework within a particular discipline must be taken in the appropriate sequence (ie. RCS, ICS, HHS.) Students are responsible for purchasing the required books. All UCC courses will use the current New Jersey Uniform Construction Code textbook.

Please note: After successfully completing the required courses, contractors also need to pass National Exams. Students needing additional material and training for the national exams or having questions about requirements or textbooks should contact the DCA Licensing Unit 609-984-7820 or visit their website.

Elevator Inspector HHS

This 90-hour program is designed to prepare students to obtain the license in the Elevator discipline according to the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code. Course-required content includes elevators, escalators, platform lifts, chairlifts, and related devices. ASME A17.1 2013,ASME A18.1 2008 ASME A17.2 required for beginning of class.
9.0 CEU. Cost: $990

January 20 - April 28

Building Inspector ICS (Hybrid Course)

This course covers the administrative, plan review and inspection requirements for structural, energy, accessibility, radon, mechanical and fire protection systems applicable to Class 2 structures. This is a hybrid course that meets for 18 for sessions for a total of 75 hrs which includes a mandatory field trip and has additional online work as well. Textbooks: Current 2015 International Building Code, 2015 International Mechanical Code and 2015 International Fuel Gas Code. 7.5 CEU. Cost: 825

Electrical Inspector HHS

Pre-requisite: Electrical Inspector ICS

This course covers advanced electrical systems and system design, material, and installation practices pertaining to Class I structures and all other structures, with particular attention to hazardous use locations. 4.8 CEU. Cost: $632

March 19 - May 9

16 sessions  / Mondays and Wednesdays / 6:30-9:30 p.m.

Building Inspector HHS

Textbooks: 2015 International Building Code, 2015 International Mechanical Code and 2015 International Fuel Gas Code, (not required but recommended the Uniform Construction Code NJAC 5:23)  This is a hybrid course that meets for 15 sessions for a total of 60 hours which includes a mandatory field trip and has additional online work as well. 6.0 CEU. Cost: $660
