The Center for Continuing Studies at Mercer County Community College is now an official testing site for Adobe Certified Associate (ACA) Certification.


The Adobe Certified Associate (ACA) certifications are individual online exams (maximum 50 minutes each) using one of Adobe's software programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver, and Flash. Upon successfully passing the exam, students will receive a certificate of proficiency directly from Adobe Corporation.


Some benefits of becoming Adobe certified include:
The well-recognized Adobe credential signifies a proficient level of skill in the particular platform in which you are testing.

The certificationsignifies training and expertise, helping you get that next promotion or new job.
It provides the knowledge and ability to design projects and carry out tasks efficiently and creatively.

Foundations of Graphic Design
From typography and page layout to color theory, this course assists the novice designer or working pro in understanding what it takes to create professional graphic design. Topics include: a history of graphic arts; introductory discussions of type; composition and layout; color theory; and photographic and illustrated images as they directly impact today’s graphic designer. 0.9 CEU. Exploring Fonts: Intro to Typography
This interactive course provides an overview of the basic fundamentals of type design as it applies to graphics, advertising, and other areas of visual communication. It focuses on how typography can be used as a communicative device as well as a graphic, compositional, and expressive element. 1.2 CEU. Cost: $280

Front-End Development
The course is primarily designed to introduce JavaScript as a client-side programming language. Basic HTML and CSS concepts will be reviewed; however, the focus is on learning how to code interactive web pages using JavaScript. Hands-on exercises and lab sessions are utilized to practice and reinforce the subject matter. At the end of this course, participants will be able to design web pages using HTML and CSS while making them interactive using JavaScript.

Web Design Concepts
Required: Basic knowledge of Windows; familiarity with creating and saving files, ability to touch type
Learn the basic programming languages and tools needed to design and develop web content. Understand what is needed BEFORE you begin building a website and use that knowledge to build a basic web-based framework. This class prepares you for the next steps on your path to becoming a web designer or developer. 0.9 CEU. Cost: $220

Intro to Illustrator CC
You don’t need to be an illustrator to learn and use this industry standard vector graphics application. This course gives you a hands-on understanding of how to find your way around the program as well as the variety of tool sets that are available within it. Shapes, paths, layers, stacks, swatches, object based creation, document setup, the pen tool, and palettes are just some of what is covered in this course. Exploring Fonts: Advanced Typography
Get a solid overview of advanced typography as it applies to graphics, advertising, and other areas of visual communication. Upon completion of this course, participants will create their very own typeface using Adobe Illustrator.  Making your own font is not only a great way to show off your design and illustration skills but is a milestone for any designer!  Use your typography skills to showcase a font that is legible, creative, marketable, and has strong visual balance.  Once created, the many uses of your font are endless! 1.2 CEU. Advanced Illustrator CC
Prerequisite: Intro to Illustrator
Take what you have learned in the Introduction class and bring it to the next level. Take an in-depth look at palettes, effects, new dimensional tool sets, page layout options, and integration with other applications. Now’s the time! Learn to read and write proper HTML 5 code to create accessible web pages. Understand conceptual design; text formatting; link creation; tables and lists; and inserting graphics and images. Cascading Style Sheets and form design will also be introduced. Required: Introduction to Windows; experience with word processing desirable.
Let us introduce you to Adobe’s premier image editing application with an emphasis on what you NEED to know about this incredibly robust program. This course focuses on the tool sets available within the program and provides a hands-on understanding of how to find your way around Photoshop. Image-size, resolution, selections, layers, dialogs, shortcuts, and basic editing techniques are just some of what will be covered in this course. Advanced Photoshop CC
Prerequisite: Introduction to Photoshop
Learn advanced techniques and applications for the tools presented in the Introduction course. You, too, can use WordPress, the popular website blogging and content management system!
