West Windsor, N.J. – The Mercer County Community College (MCCC) women's cross country team appears to be ready, set, and gone!

In the Dukes Invitational, the team's second race of the season hosted by Cumberland County College on Sept. 9, the Vikings came in first, beating Delaware Tech 18 to 41. (MCCC and Del Tech were the only two schools to have the five runners necesssary to be counted as teams.)

The Vikings took the first four places in the 5K race. They were led by freshman Hayley Baydar, who completed the course in a time of 19:40. Freshman Laura Gould took 2nd in 21:23; freshman Claudia Baydar was 3rd in 21:49; and freshman Olivia Reiss took 4th in 22:07. Sophomore Breanna Santini closed out Mercer's top five scorers with a 13th place finish in 25:20.

This marks the second straight Dukes Invitational the women’s team has won. It was also a strong showing for the Vikings against Region 19 competitors, as the women look to repeat as Region 19 champions after capturing the first title in school history last fall.

"The team is training hard on a daily basis. This early win over a Division I rival is a good start for them," said Head Coach Mike DeAngelis. "Our ultimate goal is to qualify for the Division I NJCAA National Championship again this year."
